The Best Movies Based on Books

Posted: 18 Sep 2018 02:31 PM PDT

List of the best movies based off books, voted on by cine-bibliophiles everywhere. Many movies are based off of books but whenever a new movie based on a book comes out there is an endless amount of whining about how Hollywood isn't original and why can't they write their own stories? That's simple, it's because these amazing stories are already written and Hollywood has the means to bring them to life, and some times they do it better than even your imagination thought possible. This list looks at the films based on the books - novels, literature, or nonfiction - that made you want to reread the book, started endless "which was better the movie or the book" debates, made you squeal with delight that you pictured it that way in your head, and just blew your frickin' mind.

What are the best movies based on books? Vote on the top movies based on books and share this with your friends to get their opinions, too!

List of some of the best American novels from classic writers, like Nathaniel Hawthorne, to more modern names, like Stephen King, with room for the list to grow. There is an option to add your favorite American novels to the list if yours is not already on there.

More modern American novels are included, such as The Road by Cormac McCarthy and The Stand by Stephen King, which may be more familiar.

American novels can represent the spirit of the age in the United States during the time it was written or the time it was set in. The American novel is written by those who are knowledgeable about the state, culture and even the perspective of those during that time.

Some of these best American novels may have also been on the reading curriculum in school, like Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe, The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien or To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Be sure to vote not just on your favorite authors, but on your favorite novel of all time, as some authors may be listed twice for other novels that are considered the best.

The Greatest Rock Songwriters of All Time

Posted: 18 Sep 2018 11:11 AM PDT

The greatest rock songwriters of all time have a lot in common. Firstly, they are some of the biggest names in rock music history. These household names have written some of the most popular songs. Secondly, even if you aren't too familiar with these songwriters, you've definitely heard their songs at least once or twice. You may not be familiar with their names or faces, but you should know their music. For some bizarre reason, you may not have heard of John Lennon or Paul McCartney, but you definitely have heard of The Beatles and their music. The same goes for Freddie Mercury and Queen, who like The Beatles' songwriting duo, wrote some of the most popular songs in music history.

Bob Dylan is widely considered one of the first songwriters to incorporate poetry, imagery and a social consciousness to rock music. His influence ranges far and wide. Many of the songwriters on this list count Dylan as one of the most important songwriters in rock history. He may not have had the same impact as Dylan, but Kurt Cobain has proven to be one of the most important songwriters in recent history. His career may have been short, but his impact on music history cannot be understated.

It's not easy to determine which of these songwriters is the greatest of all time. It's up to you to determine who is the greatest rock songwriter of all time by voting for who you think deserves that title.

The Best Super Nintendo (SNES) Games

Posted: 18 Sep 2018 02:51 PM PDT

List of the best games ever released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The 16-bit Super Nintendo (or SNES) video game console was available beginning in 1990 in Japan (where it was known as the Super Famicom) and the following year in North America, and was not discontinued until 2003 and 1999, respectively. During the 16-bit era (which primarily featured SNES competition from the Sega Genesis console), Super Nintendo was the world's best-selling video game system. Over 39 million SNES units were sold around the world (still shy of the incredible 61.91 million original Nintendo systems sold.) Even into the 32-bit era, Super Nintendo systems remained commonplace in homes around the world.

794 total games were officially released for the Super Nintendo system. The first games available for the new system were "Super Mario World," "F-Zero," "Pilotwings," "SimCity" and "Gradius III." "Super Mario World" - which was often bundled and sold with the system in its early days - remained the best-selling SNES game of all time, with over 20 million units sold. Many Super Nintendo titles have remained popular through the use of emulators, which can currently recreate the SNES experience on computers.

The Greatest One-Hit Wonder Songs of the 70s

Posted: 18 Sep 2018 02:01 PM PDT

We see flash-in-the-pan artists come and go with every decade, but one hit wonders of the 70s ironically always seem to stick around. For example, you've probably heard the classics "American Pie" by Don McLean or "Spirit in the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum despite not knowing any of their other songs or discography. Below, music lovers have ranked the greatest songs of the 70s by one hit wonders in order to increase awareness for them—and also because they kick ass. So if you like "American Pie" or "Spirit in the Sky", then you're sure to love the other one hit wonders of the 70s below. Also be sure to vote for your favorite 70 one hit wonders below or add any you feel should be on the list.

If you're not satisfied with what others think are the best 70s one hit wonders, then you can copy and paste from the list to make your own list of favorite songs. Many great music artists only managed to have one true song hit in their music career that made the top 40. After all, not every artist can sustain quality output like Bob Dylan or Queen. Though to be fair, Dylan hasn't sustained quality output in a while. Still, he's far from a one hit wonder.

So if you haven't heard some of the songs below, give them a listen! Browse through this list of the greatest songs by one-hit 70s wonders, and you may just find that one special nostalgic song that you haven't heard in a long time. Just don't be too adventurous with the artist's other tracks, as they may not be quite up to standards. After all, these aren't the best one hit wonders of the 70s for no reason.

The Best Movies of the 2000s

Posted: 18 Sep 2018 12:41 PM PDT

List of the best films released between the years 2000 and 2009, the era frequently referred to as the '00s or the "aughts." Though the actual decade is typically counted from the first year (2001) through the tenth (2010), in movies, for movies, it seems easier to organize it differently. (Most people don't consider movies released in 1990 to be '80s movies, for example.)

The following list mixes films from every genre, and originating in nations from all around the globe. (European cinema seems overall more predominant, with a number of French, British and Italian films making appearances, but several Asian productions - from China, Japan and Korea - are also represented.) There is also a significant overlap of popular mainstream films (such as Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" and Peter Jackson's blockbuster "Lord of the Rings" trilogy) along with more art house or niche titles. Interestingly, a number of films that were not massive box office successes or particularly noteworthy on theatrical release have grown in esteem over the years. David Fincher's "Zodiac" was seen as a bit of a let-down when it came out, and was overshadowed by other notable 2007 releases like "No Country for Old Men" and "There Will Be Bood," but now outperforms most of the director's other work in this decade. Similarly, the low-key comic adaptation "Ghost World" from Terry Zwigoff came and went in 2000 and now makes a high appearance on this list. (This may owe in part to the ongoing popularity of Scarlett Johansson, for whom "Ghost World" provided a breakthrough role.)

Vote for your favorite '00s movies on the list below, and if you want to have more of an impact on the rankings (and maybe sneak some of your own favorite films on there), re-rank the list and make your own version.

The Most Undeserving Members of the Rock Hall of Fame

Posted: 18 Sep 2018 11:11 AM PDT

The most undeserving members of the Rock Hall of Fame are all respectable and successful musicians and bands but quite simply, not at the level of other Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees. These bands and singers are far from the level of legends like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Queen and Elvis Presley but somehow found their way into the Rock Hall regardless.

While all of these least deserving Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members were kind of a big deal back in their day, it's highly likely that most normal people would have never heard of these folks. Ask any 25-year-old if they've ever heard of Darlene Love, Bobby Bland or Jimmy Cliff. See if they can tell you who Gene Vincent, Jimmy Reed or The Moonglows are. Challenge them to name one song from Little Willie John, LaVern Baker or The Flamingos. That person might not be able to recognize any of those names but they all are musicians and bands inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Puzzling isn't it?

No one is doubting any of the talent or success of these musicians (or saying that they are the worst people to ever make music) but when other (better) singers and bands have been snubbed for induction, it's valid to examine the interesting selections. For instance, among the musicians who deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame include Deep Purple, Rush, KISS, Journey, Cheap Trick, Jethro Hull and numerous others. Yet these big names were overlooked in place of ancient musicians like Dion, Frankie Lymon and Traffic.

Which Rock Hall inductees do you think are the most undeserving? Think an overrated and already inducted singer or band shouldn't be in the hall while another should? Add those musicians who you think are the most undeserving, vote up for those you think are the least deserving and even re-rank this list your way all below on this list of the most undeserving members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The Best Hair Metal Bands Of All Time

Posted: 18 Sep 2018 01:01 PM PDT

What are the best hair metal bands of all time? The hair bands, or glam metal bands, on this list are some of the best of the best so you have work cut out for you trying to decide which one is truly the greatest big hair band ever. There are so many great bands on this list you might even have trouble deciding on a top 10 hair metal bands list, but that is your rock challenge. Are you up for it? These great 80s rock bands certainly are!

80s Hair Metal bands serve an important role in music history. A lot of people are quick to dismiss this period of music as just "silly" but what it really did was bridge the gap from "classic rock" to "grunge." And glam rock didn't just bridge a gap, hair bands from the 80s cranked out some of the most beloved tunes in the history of rock whether anyone wants to admit it or not.

So, vote for your favorites!
